SERAPHIM LAND, OGUN STATE — The Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Unification Church of Nigeria has announced a strategic repositioning for its 2026 Annual General Conference (AGC), even as its leadership raised a chilling alarm regarding the escalating insecurity and the ongoing captivity of 151 of its members.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday at Seraphim Land, Ogun State, the Supreme Head of the Church, His Most Eminence Prophet (Dr.) Emmanuel Abiodun Adewale Alogbo JP, declared that the church is entering a “new phase of renewed visibility and national relevance.” However, the briefing was underscored by a somber update on the security crisis gripping the nation.
A Church Under Siege: 151 Still in Captivity
Prophet Alogbo revealed a devastating milestone in the country’s kidnapping crisis, disclosing that 151 members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church remain in the hands of abductors. The victims were snatched during a Sunday service on January 18, 2026, in Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
While acknowledging the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the Supreme Head urged the Federal Government to transition from rhetoric to intensified action. He called for the equipping of security agencies with modern technology and a boost in operational capacity to reclaim major roads where “fear and panic now define daily life.”
The 2026 AGC: “An Unhidden City”
The upcoming conference, themed “An Unhidden City” (drawn from Matthew 5:14), is being framed as a defining moment for the Church as it moves beyond its centenary celebrations.
“The Cherubim and Seraphim Church is not retreating into history but stepping forward into renewed relevance,” Prophet Alogbo stated. He explained that the theme is a prophetic mandate for the church to manifest moral clarity and apostolic purity in a time of national division.
The conference agenda is set to include:
- Leadership Forums: Focusing on governance and accountability within the church.
- Youth and Women Empowerment: Sessions dedicated to vocational training, innovation, and moral discipline.
- National Intercession: Strategic prayer sessions for peace and economic stability.
Economic and Political Appeals
Beyond security, the Church leader touched on the economic hardships facing Nigerians. While noting recent slight reductions in food prices, he urged the government to provide sustained relief and more robust “cushions” for the impacts of fuel subsidy removal.
As Nigeria approaches its next electoral cycle, Alogbo further advised political actors to eschew bitterness and violence. He proposed a stronger partnership between the Federal Government and religious leaders, noting that clergy are uniquely positioned at the grassroots to mobilize for peace and cooperation.
Preparations Concluded
Confirming the church’s readiness, Dr. Gbenga Aluko, the spiritual head of the host church, assured the public that all structures are in place for a spiritually impactful and orderly event. He emphasized that the collaboration between the National Executive Council (NEC) and the host body would ensure the 2026 AGC is an “unforgettable experience.”
Prophet Alogbo concluded with a call for internal unity, warning that “a divided Church cannot heal a divided nation.” He reaffirmed that the C&S Church would remain a vocal advocate for justice, dialogue, and the sanctity of human life in the years ahead.
