LAGOS, NIGERIA — Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called for a “sustained moral regeneration” and a deeper synergy between the government and religious institutions to drive Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable development and social stability.
The Governor made this appeal during his goodwill message at the 2026 Annual General Conference of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Unification Church of Nigeria, held on Thursday at the Whitestone Event Place in Ikeja.
A Call for Faith-Driven Leadership
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister ’Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the conference as a timely platform for spiritual and national reflection. He lauded the C&S Unification Church, under the leadership of its Supreme Head, His Eminence, Prophet (Dr.) Emmanuel Abiodun Alogbo, for its commitment to holiness, discipline, and service to humanity.
“Faith-based institutions remain indispensable partners in national development,” the Governor stated. “The Church plays a vital role in strengthening family values, shaping responsible citizens, and promoting the peaceful coexistence necessary for a prosperous society.”
The “THEMES Plus” Agenda and Progress
Highlighting his administration’s milestones, Sanwo-Olu noted that the THEMES Plus Agenda continues to prioritize infrastructure and inclusivity. He pointed to significant progress in:
- Transportation & Traffic Management: Expanding rail and road networks.
- Healthcare & Environment: Improving delivery systems and urban resilience.
- Education & Technology: Driving digital innovation among the youth.
- Social Governance: Ensuring gender equality and youth empowerment are central to state policy.
He emphasized that these achievements are designed to improve the quality of life for all residents, but noted that government efforts are most effective when complemented by the moral guidance and social welfare support provided by the Church.
Church Leadership Responds
Earlier in the event, His Eminence, Prophet (Dr.) Emmanuel Abiodun Alogbo characterized the conference as a vehicle for “spiritual renewal and administrative realignment.”
The Supreme Head seized the opportunity to urge leaders at all levels to implement policies that promote true federalism, economic prosperity, and social justice, ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the most vulnerable members of society.
Commitment to Peace
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded his message by reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to providing a safe and enabling environment for religious activities, maintaining that faith is central to maintaining peace and good governance in Lagos.
